Permanent Account Number (PAN) card is a unique 10-digit alphanumeric identity , provided by Income tax department to every income tax payer. It can be also used as an identity proof. The card was issued in order to prevent tax evasion and it links all financial transactions made by a particular individual. As per present IT Act / PML Act, PAN is mandatory to open a bank account .For banking transactions a PAN card can be used as a proof of identity, but it becomes mandatory only when you deposit more than 50k to your account. Indian citizens need three types of documents to apply for a PAN card. These are an identity proof, an age proof, and a proof of date of birth. The address proof should not be more than three months old.
